Gem City Nights to host music, food, arts & books
The summer series, a collaboration between the civic center and public library, will kick off the first day of July and continue throughout the summer.
Starting this July — and for every Thursday throughout the summer — the Laramie Plains Civic Center and Albany County Public Library will be a hotspot for local music, arts and food.
Gem City Nights is a new music and arts celebration, bringing the community together after a year of social distance and virtual events.
“It will be a weekly series that has a couple live music acts, some artists, vendors, and some children’s games,” said Adam Bender, Gryphon Theatre manager. Bender went on to say that Gem City Nights will be “something fun for families to do in the summertime in Laramie.”
Every week, two live bands will perform at the Gryphon Theatre starting at 6 p.m., while the civic center’s North Gym hosts an Artisan Market, and the library offers children’s yard games, art activities and a summer reading booth.
Sweet Melissa’s new food truck Veg Out will be parked on Garfield Street during each event, accompanied by a line-up of other food trucks, which will vary throughout the summer.
Gem City Nights is a collaborative event between the civic center, the public library, the Albany County Public Library Foundation and the Gryphon Theatre every Thursday night from 6-9 p.m. starting July 1st.
“The grant funding that we have gotten toward this project, we are reinvesting back into our community and into our artists,” said Kimberly Mittelstadt, Laramie Plains Civic Center Executive Director.
The headliners for the first Thursday — July 1 — will be Wolves in Cheap Clothing and Bob Lefevre & the Already Gone.
The Gryphon Theatre has recently undergone renovations, including the removal of every other row to allow more room for crowd movement and social distancing possibilities. Masks are not required for those who are vaccinated, although will be provided.
Starting July 15, Gem City Nights will also coincide with Friends of the Library Book Sales.
Three weeks of the series will include children’s performances starting at 5:15 p.m. held in the civic center’s North Gym. Ann Lincoln’s Marvelous, Amazing and Magical Animals Show and Dr. Noize Live! A Music Show are two of such expected performances.
Donors and sponsors of the event series include BendeRuble Sound LLC, City of Laramie Parks and Recreation, Hammontree Real Estate, Laramie Public Art Coalition, National Endowment of the Arts, Wyoming Arts Council and Coal Creek Tap.
