House 14 candidates raised nearly $23,000 during general election alone
Between Democratic Rep. Trey Sherwood and Republican challengers Bryan Shuster and Julie McCallister, House 14 candidates raised more than $39K and spent $31K this election cycle.
Democratic Rep. Trey Sherwood defeated Republican challenger Bryan Shuster last month in the race for House District 14. She won reelection by more than 300 votes despite running in a district with a healthy Republican lean.
Between them, Sherwood and Shuster raised nearly $23,000 and spent more than $22,000 during the general alone. Between the general and primary, Sherwood raised about $22,800 spending $18,400 of that, while Shuster raised about $11,000, spending about $8,200.
In the primary elections, Sherwood ran unopposed, but raised $7,810 before mid-August in anticipation of a tough general election.
Shuster, on the other hand, had to first run against Julie McCallister. McCallister raised $5,500 during the primary, while Shuster raised just half of that. McCallister was entirely self-funded.
Sherwood and Shuster, advancing to the general, continued to fundraise as they squared off in what was one of Albany County’s most closely watched races.
Both candidates received funds from federal or out-of-state PACs. Shuster received $250 from Common Values PAC out of Alexandria, VA. Sherwood received $250 from MDU Resources Group Good Government Fund from Bismark, ND, as well as $200 from Pacific Power/Rocky Mountain Power PAC out of Portland, OR.
The majority of Shuster’s money ($6,000 of the total $11,000) came from the county and state Republican parties. Shuster received $2,500 from Crook Republican Party Central Committee and $1,500 from Sheridan Republican Party Central Committee, as well as $2,000 from the Wyoming State Republican Party.
He raised $3,100 in individual donations — $2,500 of which came from GOP megadonors Dan and Carleen Brophy of Jackson.
Sherwood raised $10,100 of her total $22,800 from political action committees. She received $500 from WLRAPAC, $300 from the Wyoming Education Association, $250 from the Wyoming Rural Electric Association, $500 from Wyoming Public Employees Association, $1,000 from Wyoming Realtors, $500 from the Democratic Caucus of the Wyoming Legislature, $500 from Lawyers Active in Wyoming, $1,000 Workers Help in Politics, $1,000 from FFFWY Fire, and another $1,000 from Wyoming Way.
She also received $2,500 from a family member in Tennessee and raised more than $8,100 in other individual donations.
