One month later, UWPD continues search for campus assailant
Police have not identified a suspect but have upped their patrols in the area of the UW Fieldhouse.
One month has passed since the UW community received a warning regarding an alleged assault that took place on campus. Campus police have yet to identify a suspect.
Around 6 p.m. on the night of January 9, a “juvenile female” was attacked near the UW Fieldhouse, according to the University of Wyoming Police Department. While the victim was able to fight off the assailant, the perpetrator escaped and has not been identified.
According to UW spokesperson Chad Baldwin, campus police continue to investigate the case and are “pursuing some information to potentially identify a suspect as well as anyone who may have been near the incident.”
UWPD, in its original report one month ago, described the assailant as “a white male with an athletic/average build wearing all black including a black pullover hoodie, black pants, black beanie, black neck gaiter, light black gloves, and possibly dark-colored eyes and dark hair.”
UW confirmed the victim was not a student of the university.
Some Laramie High School teams utilize the UW athletic facilities. In coordination with the Albany County School District, UWPD has increased its presence around the UW Fieldhouse during practice times.
Authorities encourage individuals with information regarding the suspect to call UWPD’s non-emergency line, (307) 766-5179, or to text the keyword UWYO to 847411/TIP411.
