Sherwood, Giustozzi raise $49,000 in fight for House 14
Democrat Trey Sherwood was funded, in large part, by Wyoming-based PACs representing educators and realtors. Her challenger Joe Giustozzi drew his funding from the Republican Party and GOP megadonors.
In House District 14, Democratic incumbent Trey Sherwood has raised $22,500 in the battle to defend her seat from Republican challenger Joe Giustozzi, a relative newcomer to Wyoming who has raised more than $26,500 in his bid to oust the two-term representative.
Sherwood has earned about half of her cash — $11,550 — from political action committees based in Wyoming. That includes $5,700 from the Wyoming Education Association PAC and $2,500 from the Wyoming Realtors PAC — the candidate’s largest donors. PACs representing railroad workers, hoteliers and lawyers have also contributed to Sherwood’s reelection campaign.
Individual donors have given her a collective $8,200.
Sherwood’s largest single expense — appearing as two payments of $2,000 — was paying her volunteer coordinator Lorinda Lindley.
Giustozzi’s largest backers are the Wyoming Republican Party ($5,000), the Crook County Republican Party ($2,000) and the Jackson-based GOP megadonors Dan and Carleen Brophy ($1,500 each).
Giustozzi has received about $5,700 from individual donors and taken out $9,000 in loans.
The first-time candidate spent at least $6,300 on radio advertising via payments to McShane LLC, a Las Vegas firm with ties to the extremist group known as the Proud Boys. The Wyoming Freedom Caucus’ PAC paid McShane about $150,000 during the primaries for consulting work; McShane was behind some of the inaccurate mailers that flooded Wyoming ahead of the August election.
Despite raising a combined $49,000, the candidates have spent less than $33,000. Those figures are likely to change with last-minute campaign expenses, which must be recorded in follow-up filings.
