UWPD searches for campus assailant
The University of Wyoming Police Department is investigating a reported assault that occurred near the UW War Memorial Fieldhouse last night. Police have yet to identify a suspect.
An unknown assailant is still at large following an assault reported last night on the University of Wyoming campus. The UW Police Department has not identified a suspect yet, according to a news release detailing the department’s ongoing investigation and search.
Around 6 p.m. yesterday, a man approached a “juvenile female” near War Memorial Fieldhouse and grabbed her by the shoulders, according to the victim’s report. The victim told UWPD she successfully fought off the suspect and escaped. The suspect then fled in an unknown direction, according to today’s news release.
UW spokesman Chad Baldwin said the alleged victim was not a university student.
University of Wyoming students and staff were notified of the incident through the UW Alert text messaging service last night. Students and employees were advised to keep all windows and doors locked as a safety precaution.
UWPD describes the assailant as “a white male with an athletic/average build wearing all black including a black pullover hoodie, black pants, black beanie, black neck gaiter, light black gloves, and possibly dark-colored eyes and dark hair.”
