A recount in House District 13 found identical results. Allegations of election improprieties were “false,” according to a police report that stopped just short of charging two prominent Republicans.
1. Britzius should have charged Armstrong and Rees. Britzius doesn't seem to like to do difficult or uncomfortable things when it comes to privileged folks. He saves his "tough love" for the poor folks.
2. I would have liked to have seen a quote from Ken Chestek about the long-term trajectory of HD13, especially since there was a quote highlighting the GOP's ambition for taking over that district. It would be a big loss for what's left of the Democrats if it were to fall that way.
Why sanction, charge or even slap a wrist on intentionally disruptive allegations that were false and misleading... obviously successful republican plan for the trump era maga machine .
Sad for all of us in a diminishing democratic republic in danger of permanent damage!
Matt I emphatically agree with charging Armstrong and Rees. If it were only Armstrong, then sure do not charge, but a conspiracy should be charged, especially in this case as allowing right wingers to skate on their lies may be directly linked to the judicial proceedings of the Weimar Republic. Right wingers get a pass because???violence, too hard to win, too much whining?
Sure a jury of Rees and Armstrong's peers may not convict but that jury would play an important role in putting the Republicans in the room to either follow the facts or side with OJ Simpson and pull a jury nullification. The County Attorney and the Sheriff are our last line of "legal" defense from the Federal and State over reach and with the election of the Freedom Caucus in Wyoming and Trump we need our County Institutions to get some spine. Some cases are not about winning.
HD13 was redistricted in 2022 based on the 2020 census, so the idea that it is the same safe seat that Conolly held is probably false. I would like to study that a little more, but alas Wyoming is less transparent about voter registration than Ohio, so the data is harder to obtain.
Jeff's blogging is biased and misleading, as usual. These were not "Republican efforts," as falsely stated in the headline; they were individual efforts. The party did not support or sanction them. It is also worth noting that Democrats around the US are asking for recounts and claiming fraud in areas where they were surprised that Trump or other Republicans won. But Jeff doesn't note this due to his partisan bias.
Also, whether or not it was technically legal in this case, NO candidate should EVER be an election judge. Period. Even if there is no wrongdoing, there is an appearance of impropriety that those wishing to cast doubt on the electoral process will exploit.

PS I tried to reply to Matt but no such luck.

Not charging based on the law worked out really well in the results of the 2024 presidential election. Nothing will be learned.
