While I don't always agree with Brett Glass, I know him to be an intelligent, hard working and articulate individual who will not fawn to the administrative state.

While I feel for all those on City Council as it is a very hard job, which will only be made harder with the inclusion of Brett Glass; I am choosing the devil I know versus the wishy washy newcomer for Ward 2.

Greg, while you might disagree with me on some issues, I think that you will find yourself agreeing with me much of the time if I'm elected to Council. I'm not quite the "devil" you think I am! I have worked very productively with and on boards of directors before (In our current form of city government, that's what City Council essentially is) and am very devoted to making Laramie a better place to work and live.

I mean you're running as a landlord for landlords. An absolute parasite. We should elect people who actually care about the folks in ward two, instead of you. A coward who blocks anyone who disagrees with your biased and ignorant beliefs about housing.

Louise, that's not correct. As I explain on my Web site at http://voteglass.org (which I invite you to visit), I am a tenant, a landlord, a homeowner, AND an engineer who has designed buildings and done remodeling. I thus see housing issues from every perspective and promote policies that are fair to everyone. I have managed my family's rental properties for more than 30 years (which I was motivated to start doing because I'd had some bad rental experiences and wanted to promote well managed, affordable housing), and most of our tenants have been extremely happy with us. Some, in fact, have moved out of Laramie, returned, and specifically called to ask if they could rent from us again.... They were more satisfied with us than they were with other rental property owners and managers both here and elsewhere. I care deeply about our tenants and bend over backwards to help them. We have had a few problem tenants, but then, that's inevitable in this business. And I do block trolls on social media (as one should; they take time away from one's responsibilities). But as a member of Council I'll engage anyone in conversation and listen... so long as they are civil and don't engage in ad hominem attacks.

as a landlord and a homeowner you categorically cannot understand the conditions faced by renters that the regulations are designed to protect. you don't have to deal with an abusive landlord neglecting repairs and breathing down your neck, you don't have to deal with constantly being one bad month away from homelessness, you don't have to worry about getting caught in the vicious cycle of evictions. you do realize the applications for your apartments are public right? you can talk about well managed and affordable housing all you want, but is that really your first priority? or is it making sure you can reliably extract money from tenants with minimal effort?

Love reading Brett's replies...He is a tenet! Fantastic to an LLC that he owns...for tax purposes.....He then opines that he does renovation but I have looked at his properties that are clearly his LLCs and he does nothing.

He then complains about all the "volunteer" time it takes to run for council. Hmm maybe if he spent the time renovating instead of bloviating, then tenets would not be forming coalitions and the City Council would not be passing ordinances?

At least Brett is obvious in his motives but clearly is representing the "values" of the rest of the ownership class in Albany County. I would argue its the ones you do not hear from that own far more properties and are advocating for far worse policies.

Brett should be commended for saying the quiet parts out loud.

Oh? And what LLC would that be, Greg? You're now venturing into libel territory.

I'm sorry, Louise, but again that is not correct. I am a tenant now and have been for decades. I did, at one time, not know my rights under state law (which is very favorable to tenants) and suffer with a bad landlord. I know better now, and also work to provide a better experience for my tenants than I've had with any other rental property manager. I even helped to write and publish a booklet that informs Wyoming tenants of their rights.

A good landlord/tenant relationship is a win/win for everyone. Perhaps you need to be better informed, and less eager to stereotype and condemn, rather than lashing out at someone who has actually taken action to make things better.

Here is problem with you Brett is that you think you are always right even when the data says you are wrong. It is pretty clear the City Council has the right to pass rental regulations as the Courts have ruled but they cannot be wishy washy. If you can concede that is true and help to make the requirements fair yet enforceable, then progress is possible. However, the landlords are using your opposition to put you on the council because they do not have the guts to show themselves how callow they are, but you do not have that problem.

I agree with some of your social positions but you are wrong about the open container policy in downtown area as you always seem to think college kids are as wild as we were, the data indicates you are wrong. Plus it is clear that slightly loosened up people, definitely loosen up the pocketbooks and wallets.

I know where the rental properties are located and the current clear callousness I see from this crew is when it actually re does the sidewalks. Of the three I have looked at there is only ONE that is installed ramps when they are located on a corner. I would say that particular issue shows that some landlords will do the right thing for the aging and the handicapped while others will have to be forced to do the right thing. It is really appalling to me that this is not a city ordinance RIGHT NOW when replacing sidewalks, yet it is clearly not.

Maybe if you say that will be your issue when you come on the council, people might take you seriously, otherwise you will be just another whiner that people will ignore and if you vote the right way fine if not none of your ranting will matter.

PS your strong Mayor BS is just another tell that you are the from man for the money boys with some crack pot power play.

Again, Greg, I can see that we agree on some issues and disagree on others. That's OK. I'm listening; I'll always listen. And if you can point me at the "data" you claim to have, I'll look at it and very well might reconsider my approach to these issues. But the ad hominem attacks - especially that last one - are unwarranted. I have no "money boys" behind me. I'm volunteering for the position (and it IS intense volunteer work; it's grossly undercompensated and involves taking a tremendous amount of undeserved abuse) because I care about Laramie and want to see it flourish, prosper, and be an even BETTER place to live. If elected, I hope I will see you at the "5th Tuesdays" ward meetings (which Council has made unsatisfactory excuses to cancel of late), during my office hours, and speaking during the public comment periods at Council meetings instead of simply posting comments on an obscure blog.

I have and will continue to stand by my statement "If the present writing of the civilian oversite document was presented in front of me I would vote no. However, if a clearly defined board was presented I would entertain and give good concertation to said board."
